My Aha Moment Video

Recently, I was asked to participate in the 2015 Aha Moment Tour by Mutual of Omaha.  This was the opportunity to sit down and just say a few words about my business and why I started Sipper Photography.  It was a moment to reflect on my life, that I am so thankful for.

In the last year or so, I have stopped and said to my husband Jeff, that I started “Something from Nothing” with our photography business.  In this moment, I felt proud to be an entrepreneur and photographer.  After 10 years of working in the photo industry for other people, as well as a couple of years in the interior design and marketing fields, I finally took my last steady pay check and went out on my own.  My mom loaned us a $1,000.00 dollars when we decided to do this and somehow we have been going ever since.  Til this day, my mom is my biggest fan!!

I put all of the knowledge of managing businesses in the past with my photography passion and followed my dream.  It was hard. I had to grow this business from the ground up and I made it happen with a brand that I am proud of, that attracts clients, a product of high quality and memories that last a lifetime.  To challenge myself even further, I did it starting in 2008 in some of the toughest economic times we have experienced, but it was all happening slowly but surely.  Sometimes, it is still hard as the work is not always steady, but that is when I have to just enjoy the down time and recharge for the busy time.  It’s all good because I am doing what I love and it’s for me and my family.   It makes me feel an immense sense of satisfaction with what I do.  I am a part of other peoples events in their lives as I photograph them and make memories for them. It even brings success to other businesses as I help market them with my images.

I couldn’t of done this without the love, support and partnership from Jeff Sipper, my husband.  We shoot a lot together and it is such a pleasure to be able to work with the man I married.  We make a great team and having dual knowledge in the photo industry is such a great service to our clients.

Jeff and I now have our son Hudson, who is 2 years old.  Now that I own my business it gives me the freedom to be his mommy.  I get to work from home, go on my shoots and then take him to the local zoo during the week or other fun stuff when I’m not working.  It’s great, everything I ever dreamed of.

Thank you to all of our family, friends and clients who have supported us throughout the years.  It means a lot to us!

Sometimes in life, you have to take a chance.  You can’t wait for dreams to happen, you have to make them happen.

Thank you for hearing my story!

Best,
Dana Sipper

Laguna Beach Wedding at Surf and Sand Hotel

Brian and Rukiya had their wedding at the Surf and Sand Hotel in Laguna Beach.  This is such a great venue, right on the beach with a couple terrace views to hold your ceremony and several ballrooms to host your reception.  We just love it!  This couple did a gorgeous tropical beach themed wedding for their decor.  Brandi, at The Finishing Touch Wedding Design created such a tropical paradise with all of the flowers and decor for this wedding.  It was such a beautiful day for an awesome couple.
Congratulations to Brian and Rukiya!  Enjoy all of the photos. J+D

Client Review:

The Sipper’s were fantastic photographers for our wedding in a number of ways.  In the weeks and months leading up to the event, Dana communicated with my wife and I and kept us on track for the big day.  We met at the venue several weeks prior to the wedding to plan out exactly how things would happen so that no time was wasted during the event.  On the day of the event, Jeff and Dana were professional and efficient, managing our time for us so that we could enjoy ourselves.  We have now received the proofs and are overjoyed with their quality. -Brian & Rukiya

Gatsby Theme Wedding at The Ebell Club Long Beach

I love, love, love this wedding.  Preston and Charity hosted their Great Gatsby theme wedding at The Ebell Club in Long Beach.  This is such a perfect wedding venue for both your wedding ceremony and reception.  When you scroll through the images you will see why.  I felt romantic there!  There were so many great spots for photography.  The bridal room was just gorgeous.  One of the best I have ever shot at.  The look of the room was grand and the lighting, just perfect as the bride got ready.   Charity was so happy, she just smiled all day.  Another favorite was the parlor with a huge fireplace and piano.  We shot the couples first look in there!  Also, for the first time, we shot a Marine sword ceremony as the bride and groom exited the Courtyard.  I was amazed, the guys, the uniforms it was a picture perfect moment.  There is love, romance and splendor with this wedding.  We hope you enjoy the photos.

Cheers to Preston and Charity! J+D

Red Horse Barn | Huntington Beach Wedding Venue

Travis and Mimi were married at the Red Horse Barn in Huntington Beach.  This is a great venue in Orange County if you are looking to have a rustic, western or vintage theme wedding.  Our couple did a western theme wedding.  Travis and Mimi also incorporated a Chinese tea ceremony and a few photos of Mimi in her Asian formal wear.   Our friends at An All Inclusive Event helped them put together this wonderful wedding.  Michael and Terilyn of An All Inclusive Event have an awesome team who are always a pleasure to work with.  We loved working with Travis and Mimi on this special day.  We hope you enjoy the photos!
Cheers + Love,

Crystal Cove Engagement Portrait | Mike + Shannon

Mike and Shannon are engaged!  We photographed this engagement portrait at Crystal Cove in Newport Beach.  I love it there.   You can enjoy a milkshake at the Shake Shack, take a stroll on the beach or have dinner at the Beachcomber.  Gosh, it makes a great date spot here in Orange County.

It was such a beautiful day for a beach portrait with a gorgeous sunset.  It was fun to capture these moment with Mike and Shannon as they are both so cute together.

After our shoot, Jeff and I enjoyed a Mai Tai at the Beachcomber.  They are so good!  It reminded me of being Hawaii even though we were home here in Orange County.  Thanks guys for a great shoot.
Cheers to you both!

1960’s Inspired Engagement Session at the Dresden in Los Angeles | Lawrence + Amanda

We are so excited to share this 1960’s inspired engagement session of Lawrence and Amanda that we shot at The Dresden in Los Angeles.  The idea for this shoot sparked from an old photo of Amanda’s grandparents that she shared with me.  It was a very basic shot of the two sitting at a table in a restaurant back in the day with cocktails in hand.  We wanted that old Hollywood type theme for these two and what better place to shoot then the well known restaurant and lounge at The Dresden.  Some of you may recognize this place as it was featured in the movie Swingers.  It has such a cool vibe with the low light, high back tufted cream booths and awesome lounge areas.  We started the shoot inside The Dresden restaurant where we did a series of photos of the couple sitting in the booths.  We then did some cool black and white photos of them in the lounge area.  Finally, we ventured outside for a few shots in front of the restaurant and at a nearby news stand.  Great stuff!  Ultimately what made this shoot such a success was our couple who really got into character with the 1960’s attire and just had fun with their engagement session.

Congratulations to Lawrence and Amanda on their engagement.  It was so great to do this shoot and we can’t wait to capture your wedding day as well in October at the San Diego Maritime Museum.  That should be another fun venue to capture some moments.

Cheers to you both!
J+D
