Recently, I was asked to participate in the 2015 Aha Moment Tour by Mutual of Omaha. This was the opportunity to sit down and just say a few words about my business and why I started Sipper Photography. It was a moment to reflect on my life, that I am so thankful for.
In the last year or so, I have stopped and said to my husband Jeff, that I started “Something from Nothing” with our photography business. In this moment, I felt proud to be an entrepreneur and photographer. After 10 years of working in the photo industry for other people, as well as a couple of years in the interior design and marketing fields, I finally took my last steady pay check and went out on my own. My mom loaned us a $1,000.00 dollars when we decided to do this and somehow we have been going ever since. Til this day, my mom is my biggest fan!!
I put all of the knowledge of managing businesses in the past with my photography passion and followed my dream. It was hard. I had to grow this business from the ground up and I made it happen with a brand that I am proud of, that attracts clients, a product of high quality and memories that last a lifetime. To challenge myself even further, I did it starting in 2008 in some of the toughest economic times we have experienced, but it was all happening slowly but surely. Sometimes, it is still hard as the work is not always steady, but that is when I have to just enjoy the down time and recharge for the busy time. It’s all good because I am doing what I love and it’s for me and my family. It makes me feel an immense sense of satisfaction with what I do. I am a part of other peoples events in their lives as I photograph them and make memories for them. It even brings success to other businesses as I help market them with my images.
I couldn’t of done this without the love, support and partnership from Jeff Sipper, my husband. We shoot a lot together and it is such a pleasure to be able to work with the man I married. We make a great team and having dual knowledge in the photo industry is such a great service to our clients.
Jeff and I now have our son Hudson, who is 2 years old. Now that I own my business it gives me the freedom to be his mommy. I get to work from home, go on my shoots and then take him to the local zoo during the week or other fun stuff when I’m not working. It’s great, everything I ever dreamed of.
Thank you to all of our family, friends and clients who have supported us throughout the years. It means a lot to us!
Sometimes in life, you have to take a chance. You can’t wait for dreams to happen, you have to make them happen.
Thank you for hearing my story!
Best,
Dana Sipper
