Emmi’s First Birthday | Orange County Family Photographer

Happy New Year to all of you! It has been a busy holiday season and after a lot of fabulous moments with family, friends, clients and many miles driven (we traveled about 1500 miles over the week of Christmas and New Year’s), we welcome 2010.

Yesterday, I attended my first yoga class of 2010. My instructor shared a little point that another student brought to her attention that I would like to share with all of you. “It is not just a New Year we are starting but a New Decade of our lives!”  Not only was my yoga class great but I walked away with a wonderful outlook for this new year.

We are really looking forward to a fabulous new year as our business continues to grow. Our family and friends are so important to us and we wish all of them much happiness and success in 2010. Speaking of family, we celebrated our dear niece Emmi’s first birthday on New Year’s Eve. Here are a few photos I wanted to share from her birthday celebration, I can’t believe Miss Emmi is already a year old!

Cheers to a fabulous 2010! J+D

I caught this shot of Em as she was holding the toy camera we got her for Christmas…another photographer in the making!

Here is Emmi in her New Year’s Day attire, we got her this T-shirt too…love it! “My Aunt is Way Cooler than your Aunt” I am such a proud Auntie!

Happy Birthday to Me! Things I’ve learned…

So today I turn 35!  What did ya get me? 🙂

I never really think much about my birthday.  Since it falls in between Christmas and New Years, it just sorta gets lost in the end of the year holiday shuffle.  This year, for whatever reason, I’m thinking more about it.  Where I am in life, where I want to be, and what I need to do to make it happen.  Also, at the same time, looking back.  Esquire Magazine runs a column every month where they interview somebody called, “What I’ve learned…” It’s always interesting to me what people say.  So, bear with me for this entry, as I tell you what I’ve learned, and hopefully keep it interesting for you…

Knees won’t last forever.  I’m not sure if bad knees are hereditary or I just abuse mine, but I’m not sure how much longer mine will go before they just totally give out on me.

Love will only get you so far.  You need to actually like the person you are with.  I think that is why Dana and I get along so well.  She’s my best friend, and I really do like to spend time with her.

I’m not Indiana Jones with a camera as I thought I would be when I was 16.  I’m not traveling thru some jungle working for National Geographic.  Most of my work consists of working in a confined studio space taking pictures of things that do not move.  Some days it can be a bit boring, but I do get to sleep in my own bed every night.

I’m a bar person, not a club person.  Give me a couple drinks in a nice quiet place with some good friends and I’m there.  As much as I like loud music in my car, or when I’m working, it drives me up a wall trying to have a conversation with people if I feel like I have to yell at them.

Proper planning prevents piss-poor performance.  I’m not sure where I heard this first.  It might have been my dad when I was a kid, but I heard it again the other day and it could not be more true.

I don’t really mind the gray hairs on top of my head.  They’ve slowly been creeping in since I was 23.  It’s the gray hairs in my goatee that bug me.

I’m still completely in awe of how far technology has come in my lifetime.  On Christmas day, we were in Arizona with Dana’s family, but yet, I turned on video Skype on my laptop too see my family 800 miles away.  Just amazing to me still!

Facebook is still wild to me.  It’s fun to see what happened to people I knew from 20-25 years ago.  On the flip side, sometimes people you didn’t like from high school always tend to want to be your friend.  My memory is still pretty good about a lot of stuff.  Obviously, theirs is not!

I don’t hold grudges and I’m not a violent guy.  However, there are a couple people, that if I ever run into them, I will punch them in the face. 🙂

One of the best pieces of advice I’ve received lately comes from Don Draper on “Mad Men”.  He said, “Always move forward.”  I try to do this everyday.  Moving forward keeps you from getting stuck.

And since ya’ll love the pics.  Here is one that Dana shot at me last time we were in New Orleans…

Christmas Eve, Jonson+Samantha+Three | Orange County Family Photographer

I am so excited it is Christmas Eve! We will be heading out this afternoon to Chandler, Arizona to spend Christmas with my mom, uncle and sisters. Before we head out though, I wanted to make sure I got to this post.  As I promised 5 days ago, I was going to do a holiday portrait session post each day until Christmas and I am one to keep my word. This post features Jonson, Samantha, Sophia, August and Tatiana. If you are wondering, yes they are triplets! I saved this one for last because I felt that it was quite an accomplishment, I mean we got triplets to not only cooperate for their holiday photos, but just look absolutely adorable as well. We first met the family on Halloween when we shot their one year birthday celebration and were so happy they asked us to do their holiday portrait as well.  We look forward to watching these three grow and just want to wish them all a very happy holidays season! Cheers, J+D

With only 3 days until Christmas, I have another great family to share with you from our holiday portrait sessions.  Recently, we met Loren and Sondra at an event for local Orange County Bloggers. The two have a blog called “Land of Gracious Living” which is about living in Yorba Linda, California and their communities events. Sondra really wanted to update her family photo and what better time than during the holidays!  A big thanks goes out to Loren, Sondra, Darian and Connor for sharing their holidays with us.  Enjoy, J+D

Sipper Photography Holiday Card | Orange County Wedding and Portrait Photographer

Happy Friday to all!  The holiday season is upon us and the Sipper’s are very excited to share Christmas with our families next week.  I love this time of year as we decorate our tree, send out the cards, bake cookies, and plan to spend time with our friends and families.  Our Sipper Photography holiday card has gone out and we are so happy with how it turned out this year.  This is our second year of designing the card and it is a tradition that I would like to keep for many years to come.  If you would like to receive one, drop us an email as we still have a few left to send out. We wish all of our clients, vendors, friends and family members a very happy holiday season! We are so thankful for all of you. Happy Holidays! J+D

Chris+Melly+Amy+Rayden=Family | Orange County Family Photography

I love this time of year! We get to share so many fabulous moments with our families doing all of their holiday portraits.  Each year we meet new families and also see some families we have seen before.  Here we have my friend Melly’s family.  Her daughter Amy has been in front of my camera several times and now they have added baby Rayden. This past May I took his newborn photos when he was only a day old and now he is already six months old! This is the first family photo of the whole family and we even included grandpa this time. I just love Chris’ dad, he was so happy to take the photos with the kids and just couldn’t stop thanking me.

Capturing these moments are so important. I can’t express enough how happy I am to have this gift that I can share with all of you. I am thankful everyday that I can do something I truly love.  We wish all of you a holiday season filled with many happy moments. We want to send Chris and Melly a special thank you for sharing their fabulous family with us. Much love, J+D
