Orange County Family Photographer | Family Time

Well, Summer is officially here! It is time to get out and the enjoy the sun, bbq and have fun with your family & friends.  Last weekend we went to Arizona for a few days, so we could visit with my family and some old friends from back east.  A friend from high school was visiting who I have been friends with for over 20 years.  Also visiting was a childhood friend of my mom’s.  I got to do a few shots of them, friends for over 48 years…how amazing is that?  Stay tuned for those in the next few days.

The other night we got to go on a boat cruise in the Newport Beach Harbor aboard The Electric Riverboat Angela Louise.  It was a beautiful night to cruise and watch the boats sail by.  I just love Summer and love being by the water, whether it is to relax in the pool or take a stroll by the beach.

It is also a great time of year because we get to meet some fabulous new families as they celebrate their moments over the summertime.  Here is a special family session we did to celebrate parents over Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.  Tu-Han contacted us because she wanted to do a family portrait session with her siblings as a combined gift to their parents for Mother’s and Father’s Day.  We were happy to celebrate with them, so off to the park we go to capture some awesome family moments.  Enjoy, J+D

Newport Beach Marriott Wedding starring Dan+Kelli-Rae=Married

Happy Friday to all!  Hope everyone is off to a great day and have a fabulous weekend planned.  Anyone doing anything special?  I will be spending time with an old friend today as she is moving out of state this week.  That is two friends this week that are moving far away, it has been a rough one for me!  It is hard to see them go.  I said good-bye to my dear Melly on Tuesday as she moved out of the country and today Adrienne, who I have been friends with since 1994.  I guess you could say we go way back.  Actually it is back to a hallway at Penn State where we met right before a photography class and clicked instantly.  No pun intended! 🙂  I have been so lucky to have made some really great friends at different times in my life.  At some point, we may move on and do different things, but our friendships will last forever.

Today, I share with you a wedding we shot at the Newport Beach Marriott over the Memorial Day weekend starring Dan + Kelli-Rae.  Speaking of friends, I met our bride Kelli-Rae about 3 years ago at a marketing firm we both worked at.  Since then we have both moved on, but still kept in touch.  Over the last year, we have celebrated their engagement and now their wedding day and we were so happy to be there.  It is such an honor to photograph such special moments in peoples lives and it means even more when you are friends with them.

Dan and Kelli-Rae are a fabulous couple with a great beginning to their love story as we photographed their wedding at the beautiful Newport Beach Marriott.  Kelli-Rae was just a stunning bride.  The two really put the special things about them in their wedding theme.   They had a subtle movie theme to their reception, it was perfect.  They both love watching movies together, so we started with the movie theme when we did their theater engagement session.  Dan is a screen writer and Kelli-Rae has done some acting and singing in a few productions (you will see the bride in a shot singing to her groom), so the theme was something important to them.  We just loved seeing our photos on their save the dates,  invites and wedding programs.  A fabulous job was done by our friend Brittany on all of her designs.  Again, it goes back to having wonderful friends in your life for times like these.  Enjoy the show, cheers to you both!  We thank you for sharing this moment with us, J+D.

I told you she was stunning! My favorite shot of the bride, she is ready to go!  I am very proud of this shot, thinking about submitting this one to a wedding photography magazine.

The two wrote their own vows!

We just love this shot of Dan, such a happy guy!

Love the moments!

Another favorite…love these guys!

Of all the gin joints in all the towns…

…in all the world, she walks into mine.

Hey everyone!  Happy Wednesday to ya’ll!

It seems I keep forgetting to get to these Weekly Wednesday blogs.  Mostly because we’ve been busy shooting, working on a couple of great weddings, and a few other projects. I even realized this morning that we haven’t even blogged any of the pics from our trip to Hawaii over a month ago!  No new trips planned anytime soon, unless you count heading out to the Phoenix area next weekend to see Dana’s family, and one of her friends that is flying out from Pennsylvania.  All I know is that it’s crazy hot out there right now, and it’s right in the middle of my AZ blackout months… so Dana owes me big time!

Last summer, while hanging out with our friends Tanya and Craig, they mentioned that up at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery during the summer they show old movies on the side of a mausoleum.  We didn’t get a chance last year to get up there, so when they mentioned it again a couple weeks ago, and that they were showing “Casablanca”, we knew we had to check it out. Last weekend, we packed up the cooler, and hit the road.  What a ton of fun!  You have to get up there early.  We were actually sitting in our car, parked, on Santa Monica Blvd. for about 30 minutes or so before they let us in.  Once parked, we grabbed our chairs and blankets, a couple bottles of wine, some assorted snacks, and found a great spot off to the side of the would-be screen.  A DJ played some music, until the sun went down, and the movie started.  Even for a film nerd like me, I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen Casablanca all the way through.  Such a classic.  Great story, and really great lighting. (Told ya, I was a nerd).  We’re definitely going to be checking out more movies all summer long.  If you wanna see the schedule (they only put up a couple weeks at a time), check out Cinespia.org.

“If that plane leaves the ground and you’re not with him, you’ll regret it. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life.”

Mark+Jean=Engaged | Orange County Wedding Photographer

Sometimes we need to travel across the country or even across the world to find the one we are supposed to be with.  This last week I realized it has been 11 years already since I left home and traveled across the country from PA to CA to start a new life for myself.  My goal moving here was to pursue my photography career and  somehow along the way, I found the love of my life.  You never know where you are going to connect with the one who you are supposed to spend the rest of your life with.  I was amazed at Mark and Jean’s story as they are both from Chicago and didn’t live far from each other.  A mutual friend happened to know that they were both out here, so they decided to connect. It is safe to say that the two met and hit it off because now we are taking engagement photos of the two together.  Mark and Jean are a great couple!  We want to congratulate them on finding “the one” and we look forward to shooting their wedding in July.  Thanks for sharing your story with us.  Cheers, J+D

This shot was taken on a Southern California Beach, but it made me feel like we were at The Shore!  A little back East style!

A little Chicago connection as we shot this in front of Silvio’s in Hermosa Beach.

Sebastiani Winery Wedding Photography | Alex+Brianne=Married

A big congratulations to Alex+Brianne on their new marriage.  I was honored to witness such a fabulous day in their lives and when I say witness, I mean witness!  Yes, not only did I photograph this wonderful day but I also signed the marriage license and made the marriage official.  We absolutely love what we do, but to be the one to witness this love and seal it was a great honor.

Brianne had contacted me from Indiana and told me they were going to elope to Sonoma, CA to get married and needed a photographer.  They chose Sebastiani Winery to say their vows and it was absolutely beautiful.  These two are a very simple couple, who were fun loving and wanted something that just suited the two of them.  So, they decided to elope to Sonoma, and then have a wedding reception at home when they returned to share the moment with family and friends.   I was so excited for the wedding and when I met the two on that day, we instantly clicked.

So the story begins, at Sebastiani Winery such a beautiful location.  One gorgeous bride & her dress, a handsome groom, a bouquet of flowers, the rings, an officiant, photographer (witness), a wine barrel and the wine!  It was absolutely perfect!

We met Alex in front of the tasting room to capture a few pre-ceremony moments.  These two were such a cute couple!

This is one of my favorite shots of the two!

A little wine for the occasion…cheers to you both!

Arbor Park is where the ceremony took place, what a great spot!

The two walked out to the lawn near the wine barrel and the ceremony began!

Alex with his bride!

Happy tears, such a fabulous moment!

During the ceremony, the minister performed a wine celebration for the two.  She expressed that wine has been used for decades to celebrate happy moments.  This glass shared was the symbol of the two becoming one, as they share their first glass from the open bottle together after their vows!

Here was a moment I caught just after the ceremony.

Cheers to a fabulous couple!

The rings!

Then off to the Vineyards for a few romantic shots.  I just love wine country!

Sebastiani Winery, Sonoma | Alex+Brianne = A Sneak-Peek

Good Morning!  Looking back we have been on the go a lot over the past several weeks.   Today is L.A as we celebrate my Cousin Adrian’s college graduation.  I am so proud of him!  I watched my little cousin grow up into a fine young man and though we have about a 14 year age difference between the two of us, we were always close.   It is a pleasure to have him in our family, but Jeff & I also love to just  hang out with him and chill as friends do.  Adrian is about to open a new chapter in his life with his film studies and start on his career in Hollywood.  He is truly talented and we wish him all the best in his feature endeavors.  Much love to you Coz, cheers!

Speaking of on-the-go…here is a little sneak-peek from the wedding we did in Sonoma a few days ago.  Congrats to Alex+Brianne as they start a new chapter in their lives too.  This shot was taken in Arbor Park where they had their ceremony at Sebastiani Winery.   Such a beautiful place to say your vows!  Please check back as we will have more photos posted this week from their wedding story.  Cheers, J+D

Weekly Wednesday | J+D back from Hawaii

Aloha to all!  Happy Wednesday, Hump Day and Cinco de Mayo…geez it is a busy day here!  Just wanted to stop by for a little welcome back as we have returned from our week long vacation in Kona, Hawaii.  We hope everyone is doing well.  Did we miss anything fun while we were gone?  We want to know.  We had a fabulous trip with our family.  It was great to relax, tan, see some new places, take some photos and drink Mai tai’s.  By the way, if any of you ever make it to Kona Island, you must visit Don The Beachcomber.  All I have to say is “Home of the Original Mai Tai”!  We may have had a few drinks there because they had such a fabulous view!  Who am I kidding?  We went there for a Mai Tai’s, but the view was exceptional.  Both Jeff and I are in the process of editing our photos from the trip.  You may see a few more pop here on the blog or on Facebook, so stay tuned!

Here is a little sneak-peek from our favorite snorkel beach of the trip.  I just love the coconut palms and water!

We hope you all have a great week!  Mahalo, J+D
