Nieuport 17 | A Unique Dining Experience in OC

Jeff and I have lived in the Tustin and Orange areas for about 10 years now.  We have driven up and down Newport Boulevard in Tustin hundreds of times and have always wondered about the Ivy covered building called Nieuport 17.  We have always wanted to check out the restaurant, but never seemed to find the time.  Well, recently the mystery has been solved as  Nieuport 17 hosted our Orange County Blog Crush group this month.

Tustin’s Nieuport 17 Restaurant is a local restaurant serving premiere steak, seafood and cocktails.

Walking into the Aviation themed spot, I felt like I was walking into another time.  The walls were covered with photos and such of aviation history.  Owner Bill Bettis shared with us his story of opening his restaurant and told us the background of  Nieuport 17.  He named his restaurant after a World War 1 airplane.  Many of you may not know, but Tustin used have a large military base in their city, so famous Pilots and Officers used to flock to this restaurant for dining and cocktails.

Executive Chef Marco Colin served several fantastic specialties including a

Goat Cheese, Pecan and Fig Appetizer (They were divine)

Not only does Nieuport 17 have fabulous food and a wonderful dining experience, but each evening they have live entertainment in the Barnstormers Bar.  Jeff and I loved this.  We sat by the fireplace in the tufted sofa and listened to the piano player.  The best part was we sipped some of our favorite classic cocktails.  I enjoyed a Pimm’s Cup (or two) and Jeff, an Old Fashioned.  We totally loved our experience and the service was impeccable.  We just may have found a new spot to dine or just sit and enjoy a cocktail when we need a break.

Nieuport 17 is located at:  13051 Newport Ave, Tustin, CA 92780

H.White Special Events | The London West Hollywood

Summer is fast approaching and for all of you brides planning a Summer 2011 wedding I thought I would share some ideas for your reception table centerpieces.  Recently, I attended The Wedding Salon Event at The London West Hollywood Hotel and had the opportunity to work with Hylah White of H. White Special Events.  Hylah and her team designed this beautiful table scape to showcase at the event including a gorgeous high branch centerpiece with crystals and orchids.  This summer’s trend for table centerpieces are Nature themed with lots of tall branches and this is a great example of just that.  With an added teal textured linen this centerpiece really popped off the table!

Hope you enjoy the ideas ladies. Happy Wedding Planning! Best, Dana

J+D Baseball Style

What a gorgeous day for the opening day of baseball.  The sun is shining and it feels like a hot summer day.  It is  a good day at that since the Yankees already won their game opener!   (That one’s for you my dear hubby)

I have always loved Yankee baseball ever since I was a kid.  The Yanks were my dads favorite team so I spent many dates with him at the games.  I guess that is why I love it so much because it reminds me of my dad and all of the good times we shared!  Baseball is a past time that brings families & friends together.  We love going to the Angels Baseball games every year and it is so nice that we live so close to the stadium.  The Yankees vs Angels is still a loving rivalry between my husband Jeff and I.  We have been married almost 10 years and I still don’t understand why he just won’t give in and become a Yankee fan.  LOL

Despite the baseball rivalry between my hubby and I, this is a great time of year.  When baseball comes around that means Spring is here and we are Summer bound.  This time of year just makes me feel more energized and ready to take on the world.  I can’t wait for our first game, I will be cheering on the Angels for this one because they won’t be playing my Yanks, so at least Jeff and I can just eat our hot dogs in peace!

In the spirit of the day, I thought I would share this photo of a lovely couple that we shot at Angel Stadium during last years baseball season.  Here they are… The Sipper’s!  It was Angel Snuggie night, can’t you tell?  And we had to get a photo of us modeling our cool attire!  Well, maybe we will run into you at a game this year.  In the meantime, enjoy the season.  Cheers+Love, J+D

Baby Sofia = All we need is Love! | Orange County Baby Photographer

Happy Friday to all.  The sun is shining this afternoon and I realized I felt the urge to write a blog because I am thankful for so many things.  It has been a great week.  Jeff and I welcomed our new niece into the world yesterday morning, so I am a proud Auntie once again.  A BIG Congratulations to my sister-in-law Jennifer and our fave brother-in-law Andy on their new baby girl Kelsey.  My niece Emmi is now a Big Sister too!  I can’t wait to see them all and hold my new little niece.  I am sure Baby Kelsey will appear at the blog soon, so stay tuned. Until then, I am thankful for my family…I love you guys!

For today I will share with you another baby.  Yet another thing I am thankful for, which is what I do.  Being a photographer I get to share these special moments with my clients all of the time as their new little ones enter the world.  I am so proud to be a part of your lives, it truly is an honor to photograph these first moments in your child’s life.  Here is Baby Sofia and her family, enjoy the photos.

Cheers+Love to all, J+D

Cute little one in pink!

Baby Sofie in her dad’s arms with his Marine Uniform on.

I love it when I am approached to do something different.

Here dad asked if we could somehow do a shot of him holding her with just his uniform showing.

I was so moved by this photo since I saw it appear on the back of the camera.

Here are her little feet too!

Baby Sofie’s Big Sister’s! Such cute little girls…I am so thankful for my sisters.  Nothing but Love!

Published! Orange Coast Magazine

Now that the Daylight Saving time change is upon us, it’s time for bike racing at the Great Park in Irvine to start back up again.  I haven’t been out there this year yet, but I spent quite a few Thursday nights photographing the races for fun, and for pictures to feature on the Orange County Daily Photo blog that I contribute to.  I was pretty surprised when I got an email from Orange Coast magazine a few months ago asking if they could feature one of the pictures I shot last year.  Sure, I said.  Always nice to get published!  This issue is out on the newsstands now for a few more weeks.  I suggest you go out and grab one!

I’ll even sign it for you, if you catch me in person! 🙂

Peter+Sharmini+Dylan+Serena | Family Portrait Orange County

I love doing family portraits, especially when my families are twice the fun.  Today I share with you Peter, Sharmini and their twins Dylan and Serena.  When I shoot family portraits I try to  make sure I get a great shot of the family together, the kids together and each individual child’s shot.  I also like to get a shot of mom and dad together because that is where family all starts from and I think it is important to remember that.  After all that, my hope is that the family breaks loose and just has fun with a few shots.  It’s the laughter, fun, jokes and being together that makes a family memory.

This family shines like rock stars in their last pose, which was one of dad’s favorites.  Love it!  Thanks to all of you for sharing your family moments with us.  Such a pleasure!  J+D

Can’t forget where family started, with our parents.  Love this shot of Peter and Sharmini.

Such a fun family.  Here they strike a rock star pose… album cover style!

Published! Broughton Quarterly

We are so excited to be in Broughton Quarterly again!  We just love the Broughton Family and their properties.  Jeff and I have had the pleasure of staying at the Wine Valley Inn in Solvang (we love the wine country), The Morgan in San Simeon (near Hearst Castle) and The Andreas in Palm Springs.  All of these hotels are in California and just a short drive from Orange County.  If you are looking for a weekend getaway to relax in a wonderful boutique hotel, then check them out at Broughton Hospitality.   They also have properties in Arizona, Chicago and Bali.  Yes, Indonesia… I hope my next assignment is there, so exotic!

In this issue, I photographed artist, Penelope Krebs and her story made the cover!  It is so much fun to travel to different places and meet new people to photograph.  I love my job! A big thanks to Penny for sharing her art+life with us.

Trash the Dress or Drez the Dress? | Los Angeles Wedding Photography

Getting married is one of the most magnificent days in your life.  Yes, it takes a lot of planning to make this day happen, but when you finally get there it is all you ever dreamed of.  Face it ladies we were all young girls once who dreamed of our wedding dress and someday walking down the aisle to meet our true love.  When we got there, we said, “I do!”  It was the most amazing day shared with family, friends and the love of your life.  Thankfully you took your wedding photos, so you can remember that day always.

I remember the day after my wedding, the hair came down and I thought, I am someone’s wife!  One of the first things in order was to preserve my dress.  I wanted to save it, so off to the cleaner’s it went.  About a week later my dress was clean and all boxed up and ready to tuck away in the closet.  Yes, all of that money spent, worn only for one day and only a hope that someday it will come out again!  Well, Jeff and I got married almost 10 years ago.  Yes, the 10th wedding anniversary is coming up in August, I can’t wait!  At that time, that is what we did with our wedding dress.

Today, brides still box up their dresses after the wedding, but times have changed and now we do Trash the Dress sessions.  What is a trash the dress session?   Well, some literally trash the dress by taking your gown in a scene out of the ordinary.  The bride will drag the dress,  get it wet or even dirty all in the name of art.  Others will just have a relaxed shoot after the wedding in their gown…something fun, artistic and it is just another chance to wear that fabulous dress and look pretty.

Recently, I came across this new idea for an after wedding shoot when  I was asked to do a Drez the Dress shoot.  Here a wedding dress was transformed into a beautiful floral art design by Kimberly Clark of drezrehersal Event Planning & Lifestyle Co with all flowers provided by Design Floral Art Studio.

Here the bridal gown turns into a couture piece of art!

I loved doing the shoot, there was so much room for creativity, we could do something totally different then what we may do photographing a wedding day.  The idea behind the Drez the Dress shoot is that you take your dress and transform it into a piece of art for photos, then have the dress with flowers included freeze dried and framed or maybe draped on a dress form as decor in your home.  Along with that all of the fun shots from the shoot!  Here are some shots featuring a Drez the Dress shoot.   Enjoy!
