J+D Bridal Portrait Style- Part I Orange County Wedding Photography

Today we wanted to share something very creative and a little different. We have been wanting to get into doing some sessions after the wedding, a chance for our brides to put their dress back on and do a relaxed session with a little glamor and lots of fun.  For this session…maybe the hair is a little more free, and we get into an awesome location that is non-traditional and just have FUN.

Over the past few weeks my session idea came to life. I came across a gorgeous wedding gown and thought… this needs to be photographed! So, I began to put the pieces together with a lovely model, hair + make-up, a bridal bouquet and a fabulous location. This would be a chance for some great creatives to get together and showcase their talents.

My friend Lori, is absolutely stunning, so I approached her about wearing the gown and she was all in…she said she would love to play dress-up!

The hair and make-up was an obvious choice because my good friend Kylee House is a professional stylist at The W Salon in Laguna Hills, you can check her out at Hair by Kylee on Facebook, make sure you become a fan. She has done hair + make-up for some of my clients before and does an AMAZING job…she has even made me look fabulous when we needed photos for our website. If you are in need of a stylist, please contact her at 949.433.1279…you will absolutely love what she does!

All that was left were the flowers, and so it happened that a mutual friend recently introduced me to Richelle at The Flower Girl in Dana Point, CA. So, I contacted Richelle to see if she was interested in donating a bouquet to my “creative cause”, and it would give her the opportunity to showcase her fabulous floral design. Just like that…all the girls were in! I explained to both Kylee and Richelle, what I envisioned in the shoot…which was something simple, but elegant with warm tones. Both ladies, who are very talented ran with it and everything came out exactly how I wanted.

When I picked up the bouquet at the shop, her assistant Megan brought it out and I was amazed at how it turned out. Richelle and her team took my vision and created a gorgeous bouquet of fall colored roses, with a few simple fillers and wrapped it with chocolate ribbon. As I looked around the shop, each arrangement had its own unique beauty, which would make any occasion absolutely perfect! I would highly recommend there floral design for your next occasion.

And now what you have all been waiting for…as all of these creative personalities come together we have this stunning group of images. There were so many to choose from, but these were our absolute favorites. Stay tuned later this week for Part II of this blog post as we put together a slide show of some of the other images. A special thanks to Lori, Kylee & Richelle for making our creative endeavor a success! J+D

OC Blog Crush @ The Veggie Grill

Well as most of you know, we have really gotten into our blog this past year! We just love sharing our work with everyone and writing about all the fabulous people we meet at our sessions. I used to love to write poetry when I was younger, I had so much time to sit with my thoughts and reflect on life. It seems as adults we don’t take the time to just sit and relax with our thoughts and be inspired. All we do these days is make our way through the hustle and bustle of daily life and we forget to stop and take a moment to feel inspired. Most of our blogs are about our work, but this work inspires me, so I feel I can escape with my blogs and just think about these moments. Sometimes these moments are with people we just met, our friends, travels or just what is happening with us during the week (such as Jeff’s Weekly Rant’s…as I like to call them!) 🙂

Anyways, my point is that we love to write our blogs whether they are for work or play! We keep writing because sometimes opening a link to a blog makes someone’s day! Recently, we have had the opportunity to meet up with some other bloggers in Orange County to talk about why we write our blogs and just make some new friends. It is fun to chat with others who are into blogging and why they do it. We have all of these social groups that we all get caught up in, but it is nice to go out and just talk to people.

Last week we went to the Veggie Grill at the Irvine Spectrum and sat on their patio and just talked to people. It was a lot of fun and a great opportunity to meet some new friends.

The Veggie Grill had some fabulous Salads & Sandwich’s. We had never eaten at a Vegetarian place before, but we’ll give it a go.  I always say try something once, and if you don’t like it, just don’t do it again! Jeff had the “Bean Me Up Chili”, he said he would order that again…I had a little taste and thought it was really good. I enjoyed the Bayou Chickin’ Sandwich…I thought of New Orleans when I ordered it…I just love the Cajun food. Surprisingly, I thought I was eating real chicken…it was delicious!

Our friend Suzanne and fellow blogger was there, and she had the Baja Fiesta Salad…it looked yummy…here it is!

Me + Suzanne…

Another friend and fellow blogger, Kristen of The Meringue Bake Shop was there with her Margarita cupcakes. It was the day after Cinco de Mayo, so we celebrated on Seis de Mayo with our delicious cupcakes. By the way, her red velvet cupcake is the “bomb” as well, so if you are looking for cupcakes for your next party or event you should check her out! Here is a shot of our fancy cupcake…all we need now is a Margarita, yum!

So it was an evening of Food, Cupcakes, New Friends and as always…a little photography! What can I say, these things make me happy. It was nice to meet all of you, even if we only got to chat briefly, hope to see you again soon.

Here are all of our blogs if anyone wants to read in their leisure…lots of good stuff going on!

Weekly Wednesday-Meet Rayden Anthony! Orange County Children’s Photography

Happy Wednesday to all…we are half way through the week and we hope everyone is having a good one. It has been a busy week for us with shooting and scheduling things for the next month. I feel like I am just buzzing around like a busy little bee…I think since Spring came and now we are approaching Summer, I feel very motivated. This beautiful time of year just makes you feel refreshed and hopeful that there are many possibilities right around the corner.

I think this new life we celebrated this week is influencing my sunny disposition. My friend Melly gave birth to a brand new little boy. Rayden Anthony was born on Monday, May 11th at 2:10pm, he is a big boy 7 pounds, 15 ounces (let’s just say 8lbs) and 18 1/2 inches. I was honored to meet him yesterday afternoon, it was great to see the proud mom and dad as well as some of their family. My favorite was his “Big Sister Amy” who was so curious and proud of her new little brother. She had so many questions about baby Rayden, she couldn’t wait to help feed him and take his picture! All of that innocence and curiosity is really uplifting…it just makes you so happy and once again I am in awe to have photographed such a special moment with this family.

Congratulations to Melly+Chris+Amy on your new baby Rayden! Armed with my camera as usual here are a few of Rayden’s first photos…

Enjoy…J+D

Monday Things are Happening…

Happy Monday Everyone! It is a busy day today…lots of stuff is happening.

We have a bridal shoot a little later, I put together with a few talents…a model, dress, hair stylist, make-up and a beautiful bouquet of flowers all just waiting to be shot. Can’t wait, it should be a lot of fun. Stay tuned…we will be sharing details + photos soon!

I just want to let my friend Melly know I am thinking of her today as she waits for the arrival of her baby boy! The baby is coming… she was in labor this morning and on the “happy juice” as she mentioned her epidural. I am so excited for her and her family and can’t wait to meet  her new little one. Much luck + love to all of you.

Speaking of families, here are a few shots of a fabulous family with their new little one. Enjoy the photos and have a great week! J+D

Cody + Brandy = Sage and her First Birthday Party! Orange County Children Photographer

Congratulations to Cody + Brandy and their families…little Sage has turned one! This past week we were invited to shoot the events of Sage’s first birthday party. We first met this wonderful family when we did a session for their holiday cards and they asked us to come back and celebrate this happy day. We were thrilled to be there for these memories, Little Miss Sage was absolutely adorable in her fairy costume that was adorned with wings. This birthday princess had a fairy princess themed party, even her mom Brandy wore a crown too in honor of her daughter’s big day.  The  family celebrated with friends, a pony ride, a petting zoo, bounce house and don’t forget the cake & presents…as well as many family photos.

We wish all the best to Sage and her family! Thanks for letting Sipper Photography share your special day with you.

Enjoy- J+D

Weekly Wednesday-Baseball Season is Here!

Happy Wednesday Everyone! Life has been busy as usual for the Sipper’s, this last week or so I have been working with my friend Melly on some new marketing postcards for the portrait side of our business.  Melly is such a fabulous designer, she knows our branding and always comes up with exactly what I envisioned. We are two peas in a pod I tell ya!

We also decided to add some spice to the website, so keep a look out for our new splash page which is coming very soon! Our flash designer is Tanya Ahedo who was referred to us by our client Kirsten Wright. By the way, if anyone needs any Creative Writing or Copywriting for your business or blog, contact Kirsten, she does some fabulous work. Both of these ladies are great and it has been a pleasure working creatively with both of them.

So, last night we took a little break and attended our first Angel’s game of the season. Both Jeff & I love baseball, it is such a great past time that we have shared with our families. Though we have our Angels vs. Yankees rivalry we still remain happily married. We both knew of this going in, but still stuck together. Don’t get me wrong, I support the Angels when they are playing any other team but the Yankees, THEN IT’S ON!

Baseball reminds me of my dad too, those Yankee games are still a bit hard, it makes me think of old times…we used to have so much fun going! My dad and I ventured all over to see the Yanks, so many memories…I miss & love ya dad!

Speaking of missing people, it was such a tragedy losing the Angel pitcher, Nick Adenhart. It was somber near the hat entrance of the stadium where a huge memorial was set for him.

I really got choked up reading this letter from a 10 year old fan, it was so heartfelt and really shows how these players become heroes to us.

The support was amazing out there as the sun was setting. Here is a shot of one of the hats, I took while we were waiting for our friends Tony & Jeanette to arrive.

We were so excited to get together with them, this game was going to be so cool because it was their son Anthony’s first baseball game. Anthony enjoyed himself so much, he ate a hot dog, clapped his hands & cheered! We all had a great time and Aunt Dana & Uncle Jeff felt so honored to share this first with him.

Hope you all have a great rest of your week! I leave you with these two final shots of Little A’s first Baseball game!

Enjoy, J+D

Gary + Barbie = Family. Orange County Family Photographer

We met Gary & Barbie through my sister who has been friends with them for several years. Barbie had seen our work and expressed how amazing our photography was, so she told my sister that the next time we were in town she wanted family photos, as well as some couple portraits of her and Gary. So, on a recent visit to Chandler, AZ we met up. We took these shots in one of our favorite little downtown areas. This environment allows our subjects to really show off their personalities against some awesome facades. This urban portrait is one of our favorite styles!

We decided to do a few shots in this setting of her son Stephen, who is a senior this year and will be graduating in the Class of 2009. Sipper Photography is now offering Senior H.S portraits. We have decided that we want to give our Senior’s a fun & relaxed portrait session that really shows off their personality. Being a senior in high school is a year you will always remember, so it is important to make an impression.

So here we have it folks, an awesome Senior, a fabulous family and one cute couple all wrapped in one! Thanks to Gary & Barbie, for sharing your family with us!

Enjoy the photos…J+D

Our visit to Chandler…starring Kira!

Hope everyone had a great Easter holiday weekend. We had such a fabulous time visiting my family and what made it extra special was that my friend Jill was there too with her daughter Kira. She was out for the week to visit her grandma, so we got to spend a couple of days together. Jilly and I have been friends for…uh…how long is it now? Well, I know it is at least 13 years because it was during college when I met her at PNC bank, when we were both part time bank tellers back in the day. She lives in Virginia now, with her husband Aric and 4 year old daughter Kira and there 3 dogs. As I get a little older, I realize how much I miss my old friends. We don’t get to see each other very often, but when we do, it is like it was yesterday. We just pick up where we left off, joke about our college days and dancing until 2 am. Jill and I are totally opposite in personality, but somehow we clicked. It was me who was the bad influence and had us on the dance floor until closing, along with my sister Gloria and our good friend Mary. Love ya girls!!! We are the original “Dancing Queens”…ha ha that just dated us a bit, sorry girls!  We all had the best time together and now friendships that will last forever.

Our family & friendships are so important and that is why photography is such a part of my soul because I get to solidify the moments we share with them. On this trip, Jill asked me to take photos of her daughter Kira with her grandparents because they live in Alaska now and really don’t get many photos together. I felt honored to share these moments with Jill & her family…thank you so much Jilly!

In case you didn’t notice, Kira is quite the “Ham”. I think she watches America’s Next Top Model or something because she has got her posing down. We had a lot of fun in one of our favorite places to shoot! Afterwards, we went to grab a bite to eat and Kira looked over the table and said to me…”Aunt Dana, you love to take pictures!” As I sit here and write this with my eyes full of tears, I hear her little voice. Yes Kira, I do love taking pictures!

Enjoy the moments, J+D

Sipper Photography & The Painted Turtle Charity!

Sipper Photography is excited to announce that we are involved with The Painted Turtle Charity.

This charity is one in Paul Newman’s foundation that hosts a camp and other year round programs for seriously ill children, as well as a family care center so these children can spend quality moments with their families in a comfortable environment.

Our involvement came about when we spoke to event designers Rachelle Jones of So FabuLuxe and Andrea Brown of BlissGirlz Events. Both of these fabulous ladies are hosting events this year to raise money for The Painted Turtle.  Both Rachelle & Andrea had visited our website and told us they absolutely loved our photography, and they were hoping we would  shoot some of the upcoming events in honor of this charity. When I heard we would be working to raise money for ill children, my heart melted and I wanted to be involved.

Our first event was last Saturday, which was an awesome shoe party event that Rachelle hosted with Shooz Etc. in Los Angeles and BlissGirlz Events to start raising money for this year’s fundraiser  “Masquerade at Twilight”; which will be held in October to celebrate the camp’s fifth anniversary as well as honor the camp and its successes. We are so honored to be asked to contribute to such an amazing goal through the work of our photography, and excited to work with these two talented event planners who will make these events spectacular. With nothing but talent all around us we are all committed to making this event a success.

Here are a few shots from the Shoe Party for Charity that we took, you will get to see our fabulous designers, some of the beautiful decor for this event as well as some of the shoes that the ladies shopped for in which some of the proceeds were donated. To read more about the charity and this events details read the full press release for the Shoe Party for Charity, you may even see a shout out to Sipper Photography!

Thank you so much to Rachelle & Andrea for getting us involved in such a great cause!

Spring is here…a hike up the cactus hill!

This past weekend we celebrated the first days of Spring. I was feeling a bit inspired to take some photos for fun, so I decided today to take a hike up the cactus hill across from our house. Max joined me, I let him off his leash as we started up the hill, we are so lucky because he never goes really far. Usually, he takes off a bit, then turns around to look back and see if mom is behind him. The air was crisp this morning, but as I began to walk it warmed up fairly quick.

I thought I would share a few of the shots as Max and I roamed the hill…the Spring colors are just about here!

Enjoy, J+D
