Our Valentine’s Helicopter Engagement Story!

Too much time…
Our evening began like everyone else, with dinner! We went to our favorite restaurant Roman Cucina, in Sunset Beach. We brought a bottle of wine with us to have at the bar anticipating there would be a long wait, like the previous year on Valentine’s Day, there had been an hour and a half wait. However, this year was a little different… We walked right in and were able to sit down. I was happy because I was hungry, my boyfriend on other hand suddenly had to figure out how to stall for two hours because he had the evening on a timed schedule that I didn’t know about! He asked the waiter to bring out our appetizer and then put our dinner order in to try and drag out dinner, I didn’t think anything of it. We finished our wine with dinner and he said, “now lets go get dessert”!

Not enough time…
We then went to another favorite restaurant of ours, Sparks, in Huntington Beach, for dessert. We never have a wait and always walk right in, even one year when we went there for Valentine’s Day. This year was just a little different… There was a huge wait! My boyfriend was once again getting nervous, but now because there may not be enough time! We went to the bar area and after just a few minutes were able to squeeze into two chairs, get our delicious dessert and glass of port wine. We stayed just long enough to enjoy our dessert and port. On our way home my boyfriend announced that he needed to stop by the house for a moment, but we still had one more place to go. I couldn’t imagine where we were going it was almost 8:30, time for bed soon! The big partiers we are we tend to be in bed by nine.

Perfect Timing…
We left our home in Huntington Beach and within 20 minutes arrived at LA Helicopters at the Long Beach Airport! We boarded our helicopter with pilot Eddie and I was so excited, I have been wanting to go in one for so long, my boyfriend even had brought a long a bottle of champagne for the ride. I still didn’t think anything of it, other than what a perfect romantic Valentine’s gift! We were flying over the Orange County area when we arrived in the Anaheim area and as the helicopter began to hover and the bottle of Champagne was opened the Disneyland fireworks started to go off! I immediately had the biggest smile on my face that they had perfectly planned out with my boyfriend the helicopter route so we could watch the fireworks, he knows they are my favorite thing to watch! While hovering over them for about a minute my boyfriend, said, “Dana-Beth… Dana-Beth…Honey….HONEY”, it took him a minute to get my attention I was in awe of the fireworks! I looked at him and he took out the ring and proposed! I said, “YES!” we kissed, followed by me asking the pilots, “do you guys have a flashlight?”, everyone laughed, I wanted to see the ring and it was very dark up there! After the grand finale of fireworks the pilot flew us to downtown Los Angeles where we flew around LA’s tallest buildings! We landed safely back and ended the night with a drink at the restaurant where we first met! The evening was a dream to come true start to finish! I could not have dreamt of a more perfect Valentine’s.

In Love,
DB & Richard

Jeff rockin’ The Bow Tie by Ties.com

Bow Ties by Ties.com

Hey everyone!  Recently, we were contacted by the good people at Ties.com and were asked if we would like to check out a couple of their ties in exchange for blogging a bit about them.  In the past few years, as the wedding business has picked up for us, I’ve needed to step up my game as far my clothing, etc.  Dana and I end up at a lot of wedding industry mixers and other networking events where if you are not dressed up some, you look a bit out of place.  Having worked in the surf industry the past 12 years or so, I’ve been pretty accustomed to wearing shorts and T-shirts most days.  This doesn’t really fly when you are trying to impress potential clients.  The best part about Ties.com is that the ties are very affordable, they have a ton of different styles and the quality is great.

I decided to check out a bow tie, since I’ve never really worn one, other than at my High School Prom.  And that was a pre-tied style.  I have to say, after searching various websites and YouTube for about an hour, I finally found a video that taught me how to tie it.  It wasn’t as easy, or as hard as I thought it would be.  Just takes some practice to get it right!  Keep on the look out for another post down the line featuring the other tie they sent me!

Los Angeles Wedding Photographer | Brandon+Crystal=Married

Brandon and Crystal were married a year ago this past April.  They celebrated their one year anniversary with an official wedding reception with all of their friends and family together and we got to be a part of it.  We had met Crystal shortly before she got married last year and from the first time I met her, we clicked.  She was so excited about our photography from the first time she looked at our photos in one of our books at an event.  I loved her energy immediately and wanted to work with her!  It was a wonderful day when we finally got to work together and meet her fabulous husband Brandon.  Her Aunt was so gracious to host their wedding reception at her Los Angeles home.  It turned out beautiful!  Here they are…cheers to you both! J+D

Nieuport 17 | A Unique Dining Experience in OC

Jeff and I have lived in the Tustin and Orange areas for about 10 years now.  We have driven up and down Newport Boulevard in Tustin hundreds of times and have always wondered about the Ivy covered building called Nieuport 17.  We have always wanted to check out the restaurant, but never seemed to find the time.  Well, recently the mystery has been solved as  Nieuport 17 hosted our Orange County Blog Crush group this month.

Tustin’s Nieuport 17 Restaurant is a local restaurant serving premiere steak, seafood and cocktails.

Walking into the Aviation themed spot, I felt like I was walking into another time.  The walls were covered with photos and such of aviation history.  Owner Bill Bettis shared with us his story of opening his restaurant and told us the background of  Nieuport 17.  He named his restaurant after a World War 1 airplane.  Many of you may not know, but Tustin used have a large military base in their city, so famous Pilots and Officers used to flock to this restaurant for dining and cocktails.

Lobby of Nieuport 17 Restaurant

Neiuport 17 is filled with grand decor including the Antler Chandeliers

Nieuport 17 Dining Room

Executive Chef Marco Colin served several fantastic specialties including a

Goat Cheese, Pecan and Fig Appetizer (They were divine)

Not only does Nieuport 17 have fabulous food and a wonderful dining experience, but each evening they have live entertainment in the Barnstormers Bar.  Jeff and I loved this.  We sat by the fireplace in the tufted sofa and listened to the piano player.  The best part was we sipped some of our favorite classic cocktails.  I enjoyed a Pimm’s Cup (or two) and Jeff, an Old Fashioned.  We totally loved our experience and the service was impeccable.  We just may have found a new spot to dine or just sit and enjoy a cocktail when we need a break.

Nieuport 17 is located at:  13051 Newport Ave, Tustin, CA 92780
